In this paper, the problem of the possibility of regulating hydraulic resistance due to local thermal action is considered. The flow of an incompressible liquid with a temperature dependence of the viscosity in a plane channel with a variable cross section and an inhomogeneous temperature field is investigated. The flow velocities profiles of a thermoviscous liquid for a narrowed channel are obtained numerically. Using the example of a thermoviscous liquid flow in a plane channel with a sharp expansion, it is shown that the temperature factor exerts a significant influence on the value of the local resistance coefficient for the variable channel cross-section.

Purpose: Numerical investigation of the thermoviscous liquid flow in a channel with a variable cross section with an inhomogeneous temperature field. |
Methods: As a numerical method for solving a system of partial differential equations, the finite element method was chosen.
In a study was determined:
1. Comparison of the theoretical formula for the coefficient of resistance and numerical results of liquid flow with a constant viscosity in a plane channel with expansion showed the discrepancy between the formula and the computational data for a given coefficient with the ratio of the cross sections tending to zero, and this is confirmed by the fact that the coefficient of local resistance is an empirical value.
2. A significant influence of the temperature factor on the value of the coefficient of local resistance at a variable cross-section of the channel is established with the condition for the dependence of the viscosity of the liquid on temperature.
